EU Kids Act would require AI companions off by default for under-18s

The European Commission's draft EU Kids Act would require AI companions and chatbots to be turned off by default for users under 18 and impose obligations on social media, video sharing, gaming, and AI companion platforms serving minors. The proposal would ban addictive design features and shift the burden of proof onto platforms to demonstrate child safety.
